Dear Parent or Guardian,

This Thursday October 9th at 9:00am Valley Elementary and the Weber-Morgan Health Department (WMHD) are partnering to provide the annual Flu Immunization Clinic.

In addition to the flu vaccine, WMHD will also offer Tdap, Meningococcal, and HPV immunizations for 6th-grade, junior high, and high school students. These vaccines are recommended prior to 7th-grade entry, and additional doses of Meningococcal and HPV vaccines may be needed to complete the full series.

WMHD nurses will be available to administer immunizations to all students and school faculty. Family members are also welcome to attend and receive vaccinations at the same time. We hope this provides an easy and convenient opportunity for everyone to receive their flu vaccine.

Please complete the Consent Form sent home with your child today and return it with them on the day of the clinic, or use the secure online form:
Online Flu Consent Link: https://survey.alchemer.com/s3/7939176/WMHD-2025-School-Flu-Clinics-Online-Registration-Form

Once submitted, you will receive a confirmation email, and your consent form will be securely sent to our staff for printing.
Please note: Online consent forms must be submitted at least one school day prior to the clinic. We will not be able to provide any vaccine without a completed consent form. Paper forms will also be available at the clinic if needed.

If you have any questions about the Flu Immunization Clinic, please contact Jennifer Braegger, Immunization Program Manager at the Weber-Morgan Health Department, at (801) 399-7235 or jbraegger@webercountyutah.gov.

Science in Action
Fifth- grade students at Valley Elementary observed science in action. To kick off a new unit on
matter, a hot air balloon was on-site at Valley Elementary.
5 th grade teacher, Autum Geerdes, explained that students learned the states of matter. They
learned about density, and the idea that hot, less-dense air caused the balloon to rise. In addition,
students learned about thermal expansion and how hot air molecules spread out and take up more
space.
Geerdes stated, “We watched in awe as the massive balloon inflated and gently lifted into the sky.
It was the perfect real-world example of science principles in action.” In addition, she states,
“Our students are now full of curiosity as we dive deeper into the world of matter.”
When interviewing fifth grade students, their favorite moments were pretty similar. Many of
them commented, “We got to pull a lever that filled the balloon with hot air. We got to help roll
the balloon out on the ground and get it prepared for launching. We loved the eagle on the
balloon. We learned that hot air rises and cold air stays down low. The school janitor, the fifth-
grade teachers, and some of the school staff got to go up in the balloon even though it stayed
tethered to the ground.”

Important Update: Bus Route Changes Due to Road Work Dear Parents and Guardians, We are writing to inform you of a temporary change in bus transportation due to road work in the Liberty area. This work will affect the routes of Bus #1415, driven by Lora Gamble, and Bus #131, driven by Steve Kendell. Key Changes: Students from both buses may be reassigned to accommodate the route change. For those assigned to Lora Gamble's Bus #1415 and residing on River's Edge, 3775 E., and 3800 E., your new bus stop will be at Liberty Park. After thorough investigation, the Transportation Department determined that Liberty Park is the safest option for the new stop. Lora will also start picking up for the two stops in Eden Hills. Important Instructions: Lora will park on the northside of Liberty Park, approaching from the east. Please ensure that there is enough room for the bus to turn around safely. It would be helpful for parents to leave the space in front of the garage empty so she can turn around. We suggest carpooling for those whose bus stop will be at the park to help minimize congestion and ensure ample space for the bus. Ensure that the bus has safely turned around and parked before students approach it. During drop-off, the bus will turn around before allowing students to disembark. Additional Information: Please be patient as we adjust pick-up and drop-off times. There will be an adjustment period. We will be sending a note home with students whose bus stop location or pick-up/drop-off times have changed. If your child does not bring home a note, we encourage you to still look at the Bus Stop Locator to ensure we didn't miss an update. The Bus Stop Locator has been updated with accurate information. Please check this link to see details for your student. If your home is a newer build, your address may not be properly coded for the Bus Stop Locator. If you have questions about your student's bus assignment or times, please reach out to our transportation department at 801-476-7930. The road work is expected to continue into the summer; therefore, these changes will remain in effect for the rest of the school year. The new bus assignments and route changes will start on Monday, March 3. Your cooperation and patience during this unexpected change are greatly appreciated. Thank you for your understanding and support.
